Project Background

The technology department of a national transport company faced significant challenges stemming from an ineffective team culture. Collaboration between team members was hindered by underlying issues, leading to reduced productivity and diminished morale. Recognising the critical role of a strong and cohesive culture in driving team success, the leadership initiated a project to review and transform the existing "AS-IS" culture. The goal was to identify key areas for improvement and redefine the department’s cultural framework to foster a positive and productive environment.

Approach

The transformation process began with a thorough review of the department's existing cultural dynamics. Feedback was gathered from team members through over 20 hours of surveys and interviews, which provided valuable insights into both strengths and areas of concern within the current setup. A collaborative workshop was held, enabling the technology team to actively participate in co-creating a new cultural framework. This session encouraged open dialogue and collective ownership of the changes proposed. To ensure sustainability, working groups were established to focus on specific cultural elements such as communication, collaboration, and team-building practices. These groups were supported with resources and regular feedback sessions to monitor progress and refine the initiatives.

Results

The cultural transformation yielded remarkable improvements across the technology department. Enhanced collaboration between team members led to higher productivity and a noticeable improvement in team morale. The new cultural framework not only addressed the immediate issues but also laid the foundation for long-term positive changes. Regular feedback loops ensured that the progress was monitored and adjustments were made as necessary. The working groups successfully implemented initiatives that became integral to the department's daily operations.

Overall, the project proved to be a pivotal step in fostering a cohesive and motivated team environment within the national transport company’s technology department.
